My Approach

I have completed the 2 year Hakomi Bodymind comprehensive training. While I do incorporate other modalities into my work, Hakomi is the foundation of my approach. Hakomi teaches that we each have the capacity to heal and change. The body is wired to heal. It is through helping you learn to access your own healing potential that the healing - the magic- can happen.

Hakomi is a somatic and mindfulness based approach. True to the traditional Hakomi model, I will have you spend ample time processing and working in the present moment. When in the present, you have an opportunity to separate from your thoughts and feelings. The process of disengagement with thoughts and feelings allows you to study thoughts and feelings and to find out where they originate from - which is almost always a past experience. Instead of merging with a thought/feeling and simply believing them to be true, you can develop insight into where they stem from and gain freedom from them. You then have an oppurtunity choose how you want perceive a situation and write a new story for youself. .

In addition to working in mindfulness, I incorporate somatic awareness into my work. The mind and body work together to color how you experience a moment. The feelings you have that influence your thoughts and perspective live in the body. A part of my work involves helping you learn how to relate to the sensations in the body that define emotions in a way that makes space for healing instead of resistance.

Sessions vary depending on what one is needing and wanting to work on. Some areas we will likely visit are listed below:

  • Revisiting and healing emotional traumas that continue to affect how you feel about yourself and possibly others in your life
  • Learning how to accept and be guided by your negative emotions, enabling you to release negative emotions in a healthy and productive manner
  • Developing coping skills that will improve your mood and general wellbeing
  • Learning stress and anxiety management techniques
  • Learning mindfulness based self healing practices
